World Environment Day 2014

When we own a House and live there , we take all possible measures to keep it clean and livable .Similarly Environment is the space where everyone and every thing co-exist and are inter-dependable .Every small Action we do creates a long-term effect .So choosing to live Nature-friendly should be the Natural and primary option for us.

I have Inculcated some good habits towards my contribution to conserve Energy and make sure my childrens too learn, understand the importance and contribute towards the same .Here it goes :

1 .Switching Off the Devices when not in use -especially Laptops,TVs ,Owens,Light and Fan ,Electric Geasers will definitely save Electrical Energy , but in addition to it always i consider using less of the Refrigerator ,TV and Geaser .Its much more healthy to buy fresh and cook fresh ; Bathe in Warm water and to watch less TV .

Usually many people keep their Laptops and other devices plugged IN even after its 100% charged and rarely shutdown their Laptops /PCs . Make it a mandatory to Turn-Off Charging and shutdown PCs when not required .Switching Off TVs and all possible electric appliances at night and using Florescent power saving lamps should be mandatory .

2. Lesser Use of Mobile devices contribute a larger part in saving the environment and making surrounding Nature as bird-friendly . Also it will save electrical energy .

3. Installing and using Solar heaters in Apartments and Larger independent houses should be mandatory .Use of Solar operated devices especially Cars,Street Lights ,Fans ,Stoves should be encouraged by Government and embraced by people.

4. Converting Raw kitchen waste and other recyclable waste into HeatEnergy for heating/Cooking, using Gobar Gas as fuel should be more encouraged in Urban areas and Metro cities .

5.People should use less of paper cups and plastic bottles even when are outside and should instead carry steel utensils that can be easily washed and re-used.

6.The major cause of Pollution and global warming is the use of Plastics . I always carry Cloth/eco friendly bags while going to groceries or for any purchase. Re-use if any Plastic covers taken .Say NO to paper Bank Statements and any paper transactions should be discouraged .there are banks which already support Green transactions and are Eco-friendly.Government should encourage such banks and make it mandatory for all banks to operate Green.

7.Public transport should completely run Fuel Free and should use Solar/ rechargeable electric energy .Bangalore has already started the Trial run of one such Green bus .All metros and highly populated areas should mandatory use Public Green transports instead of private vehicles .

If Childrens are educated about conserving Energy ,using greener alternatives and being Eco-Friendly right from young Age, we will definitely have a better place to live-IN in future . Not only Schools play a vital role in this but also we as Parents should be role models to them and should make conserving energy a part of life .

LIVE SIMPLER , LIVE HEALTHIER and LIVE HAPPIER !!!

Mudra Dharane yake ?

Tapta Mudra Dharana is mentioned in Vishnu Ragasya and in Vedas as well. It is also discussed in detail in Ayurveda Shastras. All these shows that it has been in practice for a long long time. It is a fundamental requirement for a Vaishnava.
The wearing of Tapta-mudra- dharana has been explained in various spiritual scriptures like Rigveda, Padma Purana, Mahabharatha etc. The Lord reclines on ‘Sesha’. However we should not go into sleep mode forgetting Him. Thus we mark our body with His symbol – Shankha and Chakra. It is a vaideeka ritual. Vaishnava ritual. Cleansing process. It is said that during Mahabharata war ‘Tapta Mudra Dharana’ was done for the soldiers.
It is a reminder of ‘Bhakthi to Lord Vishnu’.
The mantras which are chanted while doing ‘Mudhradharana’ bless us – let the glow of ‘Sudharashana’ remove all our ignorance and the sound of ‘Paanchanjanya shankha’ destroy all our accumulated sins and lead us in the path of ‘Vishnu marga’.

The significance of this act is – The ‘jnanagni’ (light of knowledge) obtained from ‘ Shaastras’ should sever the darkness of ignorance and the ‘omkaara naada (sound) from the shankha should enlighten us bestowing ‘jnana bhakthi and vairaghya’. One should get the ‘Mudra dharana’ done with this attitute. It will give the key to open the doors of ‘Moksha’. On the contrary if a person fails to wear it then all of his meritorious deeds will go to waste. This demonstrates the great importance that is given to taptamudra.
Thus by getting ‘ Mudhradharana’ done let us obtain the grace of ‘Sesha saaye Mahavishnu’ and prepare ourselves to be soaked in the bliss of Moksha.

Ashwatha marakke yaake pradakshine ?

During the Vedic period, the wood obtained by cutting Peepal tree was used to produce fire. In the ancient Puranas, an incident has been described in which the demons defeated the deities and Lord Vishnu hid in the Peepal tree. Since, the Lord resided in the tree for some time; the tree holds great importance for people. Thus, people began worshipping the tree, considering it to be a means of offering prayers to Lord Vishnu. There are a few legends, which suggest that Lord Vishnu was born under the peepal tree. There are a couple of stories, which say that the tree is home to the trinity of Gods, the root being Brahma, the trunk is Vishnu and leaves represent Lord Shiva. Another popular belief is that Lord Krishna died under the Peepal tree.

Upanishads have also made a mention about the Peepal tree. To clearly define the difference between the body and soul, the fruit of peepal is used as a classic example. According to the Skanda purana, a person who does not have a son should consider the peepal tree as his own child. It says that the family will prosper and have a good name, till the peepal tree survives. Cutting a peepal tree is regarded as a big sin, which is almost equivalent to murdering a Brahmin. Skanda Puranas say that a person who cuts the tree surely goes to hell.

It is preferred to touch the peepal tree only on Saturdays. It is said that once upon a time, there were two demons, namely Ashvattha and Peepala, who used to torture and harass people. Ashvattha took the form of peepal and the Peepala disguised as Brahmin. The Brahmin used to recommend people to touch the peepal tree and as soon as they did so, they were killed by the demon Ashvattha. Both the demons were killed by Shani devta. It is due to the strong influence of Shani Maharaj that it is considered safe to touch the peepal tree on Saturdays. People are of the belief that even Goddess Lakshmi dwells in the tree on Saturdays. Women who are not blessed with a son tie a red thread around the trunk or on its branches asking the deities to bless her and fulfill her desire.

Panchagavya:Significance

The five basic products which we get from Cows are called Panchagavya. They are the Milk, the Curd, the Ghee, the Dung and the Urine of the Cow(Gomutra). These elements have the power to cure many diseases. It actually balances the three dosas or faults or ailments in the body i.e., bile, air, and mucus (pitta, vata, kapha). The medicines are the combination of these five basic elements and other medicinal herbs.
Vedas (scriptures) are the source of Indian culture. Vedas are eternal. Ayurveda is the branch of Vedas, which deals with holistic aspects of health. Health means physical, mental and spiritual well being too. In Ayurveda the importance of cow and its products are described in great detail.
Gavyam pavitram cha rasayanam cha
pathyam cha hrdyam bala-buddhidam syat
Ayur pradam rakta vikarahari
tridosha-hrdaroga-vishapaham syat

It means this panchagavya is supremely pure, elixir, pleasing to heart and giver of strength and intelligence. It is giver of life, remover of all blood diseases and also removes heart diseases and works against poisons.
Without panchagavya a person is not allowed to perform yajna. The glories are that just by drinking it all sins are destroyed.
Please note the Mantra below for taking the sacred Panchagavya:.
yathtvakh asthigataM pApaM dehe tiShThati (mAmake) dehinaH |
prAshanat panchagavyasya dahatyagnirivendhanam ||

Meaning: From skin to bones, whatever sins (diseases) are in my body, are destroyed by panchagavya at once just as fire destroys fuel.

Lakshmi Shobhane Significance

Once when Sri Vadiraja Swamy was touring South India, he reached Kumbhakonam in what is now Tamil Nadu. There, he was staying in the house of an Acharya for a few days. During his stay, he had defeated many scholars of other schools of philosophy and had made them accept the philosophy of Sri Madhvacharya.
The owner of the place where he was staying had a son whose marriage had got fixed after a long search for a good bride. The parents of the boy had requested Sri Vadiraja Swamy to attend the marriage and bless the couple, to which Sri Swamiji had agreed.
On the day of the marriage, when the rituals were on in full swing, the groom suddenly collapsed on the floor. Within minutes, he was frothing and shivering and ended up motionless. People realized that a small, but poisonous, snake had creeped into the head gear that the groom was wearing. The snake had bit him right on the temple causing instant poisoning.
The local doctor was called in and the groom was pronounced as dead. Some local tantriks were also put to service, but to no avail. People were getting ready to take the body away for cremation.
The father of the groom rushed to Sri Vadiraja Swamy who had not yet arrived at the marriage venue. Sri Swamiji instantly was able to relate to the chain of events. He told the people gathered there that there had been an uneasiness in him since three days and he had realized that something untoward would occur during the marriage. On the morning of that day, at Brahmi Muhurtha (around 4:30AM), he had composed a song in Kannada on Mahalakshmi and Vishnu. The song was about Lakshmi’s marriage to Vishnu during the Samudra Mathana episode (churning of the ocean for Amruta).
Sri Swamiji meditated for a while on his favorite form of Vishnu – Hayavadana – and realized that the groom had an untimely death and that there was still life in the body. He rushed to the venue immediately. There, he sprinked some “Theertha” (holy water) on the body and also some “Mantrakshate”. He sat down there and started singing the newly composed Lakshmi Shobhane song. Lo and behold! Just as the song was to complete, the groom sat up as if he had just got up from deep sleep!
The Lakshmi Shobhane song is one of the most auspicious songs in the Kannada language. Even today, nearly 500 years after its composition, it is sung in almost every wedding in Karnataka. In Tulu Nadu, ladies sing this almost daily during their evening prayers. It is an extremely melodious song with 112 verses in it.

Why do we say Shaanti thrice ? "Om Shanthi, Shanthi, Shanthi he…"

Shaanti, meaning “peace”, is a natural state of being. Disturbances are created either by others or us. For example, peace already exists in a place until someone makes noise. Therefore, peace underlies all our agitations. When agitations end, peace is naturally experienced since it was already there. Where there is peace, there is happiness.
Therefore, every one without exception desires peace in his/her life. However, peace within or without seems very hard to attain because it is covered by our own agitations. A rare few manage to remain peaceful within even in the midst of external agitation and troubles. To invoke peace, we chant prayers. By chanting prayers, troubles end and peace is experienced internally, irrespective of the external disturbances.
All such prayers end by chanting shaanti thrice. It is believed that trivaram satyam – that which is said thrice comes true. For emphasizing a point we repeat a thing thrice.
In the court of law also, one who takes the witness stand says, “I shall speak the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth”. We chant shaanti thrice to emphasise our intense desire for peace. All obstacles, problems and sorrows originate from three sources.

1. Aadhidaivika: The unseen divine forces over which we have little or no control like earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions etc.
2.Aadhibhautika: The known factors around us like accidents, human contacts, pollution, crime etc.
3.Aadhyaatmika: Problems of our bodies and minds like diseases, anger, frustrations etc.

We sincerely pray to the lord that at least while we undertake special tasks or even in our daily lives, there are no problems or that, problems are minimized from the three sources written about above. May peace alone prevail. Hence shaanti is chanted thrice.

It is chanted aloud the first time, addressing the unseen forces.
It is chanted softer the second time, directed to our immediate surroundings and those around, and softest the last time as it is addressed to oneself.

All About worshipping Hanuman

As the following mantra indicates, Lord Hanuman provides his devotees with knowledge, power, courage, and health.

Budhdirbalam yasho dhairyam nirbhayatvam arogata
Ajaadtyam vakpatutvam cha hanumat smaranadbhavet

Panchamukhi refers to five faces. According to the scriptures, Lord Hanuman assumed this form to slay Mahiravana, brother of Ravana. Mahiravana was a sorcerer and an ardent devotee of Goddess Mahamaya. Instigated by Ravana, Mahiravana took Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana to Paathaala Loka  and was tempted to sacrifice them to Goddess Mahamaya. To save the divine brothers, Lord Hanuman had to stub out five lamps burning in different directions simultaneously. He therefore assumed the Panchamukha form to win this task.

The Panchamukha form of Lord Hanuman has the following five faces:
  1.     Hanuman (a fervent devotee of Lord Rama) – facing the east
  2.     Narasimha ( an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who slayed Hiranyakashipu) – facing the south
  3.     Garuda ( the mount of Lord Krishna) – facing the west
  4.     Varaha (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, who slayed the demon Hiranyaksha) – facing the north
  5.     Hayagriva (an incarnation of Lord Vishnu, considered the God of wisdom)– facing upwards

The Panchamukha Hanuman Stuthi is a potent stotra meant to praise each of the five forms. This stotra helps to alleviate troubles and keep evil forces away. It serves as a protection to devotees who chant with utmost faith.

Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya poorva kapi mukhe
Sakala shatru samhaarnaaya swaaha

  • The east facing form of Lord Hanuman protects devotees from problems caused by enemies. He provides happiness and fulfills wishes.
Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya dakshina mukhe
Karaala vadanaaya Narasimhaaya sakala bhoota praeta pramadanaaya swaaha

  • The south facing form of Lord Narasimha removes all types of fear, sins, unfavorable influences of spirits and demons, and fulfills our wishes.
Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya paschima mukhe
Garudaaya sakala visha haranaaya swaaha

  • The west facing form of Lord Garuda removes all types of ailments, negativities, black magic, poison, and fear.
Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya uthara mukhe
Aadivarahaaya sakala sampatkaraaya swaaha

  • The north facing form of Lord Varaha provides the ashta aishwarya (eight different forms of wealth).
Om namo bhagavathe panchavadanaaya oordhwa mukhe
Hayagrivaaya sakala jana vasheekaranaaya swaaha

  • The upwards facing form of Lord Hayagriva helps devotees attract the goodwill of people. The words of His devotees turn into reality. He bestows them with advancement in seeking knowledge, good company of friends, intelligence, good children, and salvation.
The Panchamukha Hanuman Gayatri can be chanted to overcome obstacles in life.

Om Anjaneyaya Vidmahe Panchavaktraaya Dheemahi
Tanno Hanumath Prachodayaath

The five forms namely Hanuman, Narasimha, Garuda, Varaha, and Hayagriva can also be invoked individually by chanting specific Gayatri mantras.

Hanuman Gayatri:
Shree aanjaneyaya vidmahe mahabalaaya dhimahi tanno Kapi prachodayat
Narasimha Gayatri:
Vajranakhaaya vidmahe tikshanadamshtraya dhimahi tanno Narasimha prachodayat
Garuda Gayatri:
Tatpurushaaya vidmahe suvarna pakshaya dhimahi tanno Garudah prachodayat
Varaha Gayatri:
Om dhanurdharaya vidmahe vakradamshyara dhimahi tanno Varaha: prachodayat
Hayagriva Gayatri:
Om vaagishwaraaya vidmahe Hayagrivaaya dhimahi tanno hangsa prachodayaat

If you are troubled by evil influences, and want to seek protection from fears, enemies, and the occult, Panchamukha Hanuman is the God for you. He protects those who seek refuge in Him.

Ram :

The sacred aim of Religion is to remind man of his divine origin and help to lead
him back to God .The Avatar descends to the level of the human to bless
and rescue those who cannot rise to the level of the Divine. The Divine
manifests His powers according to the needs, the circumstances and the conditions prevailing at
a particular time or place.
One Such Avatar is Lord Shri Rama .Rama Sacrificied the Throne and went to woods to honour his Father's words .Rama sent away Sita to the forest out of a feeling that the washer-man's comment might be an indication of the unspoken feelings of many others among his subjects.Rama stands out as an ideal ruler intensely responsive to the wishes of the people.Men of character, who are totally free from self-interest should occupy the seats of power .Rama demonstrated the deal relation that should exist between the ruler and the ruled.
The Ramayana is a work which holds out ideals for every home and every family. What should
be the relations between a father and a son, how should a husband and wife conduct themselves,
how should brothers behave towards each other, what should be the relations between the rulers
and the citizens, how should sisters-in-law conduct themselves--all these are exemplified in the
story of the Rama-Avatar .The Ramayana, thus, must be looked upon as a great work from which one can learn how each member in a family should conduct himself or herself righteously and lead an ideal life.

The Ideal son: He always obeyed His parents; at times even advised the elders.

The Ideal brother: Rama-Lakshman's love is cited as the ideal of brotherly love.

The Ideal husband: He was devoted to His one and only wife. Kings, then, use to have many wives.

The Ideal friend : He helped Sugreev, Vibhishana and many others during their difficult times.

The Ideal King : He followed all codes of conduct for Kings as laid down in our scriptures.

The Ideal Enemy : Vibhishana refused to perform the last rites of Ravana, his brother. Lord Rama said to him, ''If you do not do it, I will. He was my brother too!''

Maryadapurushottam : He represents the Supreme extent of Righteousness.

Dharbe Significance

This article is to focus on significance of one of the practices widely used by Indian Brahmins all over  : using a Holy Grass named Dharbham or Dharbai. The botonical name is Eragrostis cynosuroides and Hindi they call as Kus or Kusha. Brahmins use this Darbai grass in all functions, auspicious or inauspicious. A performing person needs to wear a ring made of this Dharbham. But many have lost the reason of why it is to be used in the first place.

A medical practitioner,  took out a bunch of the Dharbham once, went straight to the clinic to take an x-ray of his palm, by covering his hand with the Dharbham. To his utter surprise, he found that the grass absorbed about 60% of the (x-ray) radiation!
When the so powerful X-ray radiation can be absorbed by the Holy Grass, why can it not absorb the ill-radiations spread over the atmosphere? While chanting and reciting some Vedic phrases and
versus, one needs to wear a ring made of Dharbham on his right hand ring finger. This is most essential, while performing all the rituals, such as Agni Santhanam, Thiru-Aaradhanam, all sorts of
Havans known as Homam etc.

The count of leaves depends upon the function that is held viz.: for some functions related to death only Single leaf Dharbham is used; for Auspicious and daily routine a ring made of two leaves is
used; for inauspicious but not death related functions, (i.e. Amavasya Tharppanam,Pithru Pooja etc) a three leaf Dharbham ring is used. And for the Temple Prayer and Pooja, a Four-leaf Dharbham ring is used.

Also, when a fire ritual known as Agni Santhana is performed, these Dharbham are spread all the four sides of the Agni Kundam. Also, during the Eclipse time, these Dharbham are used to cover all food items to protect them from the harmful ultra violet radiation.

Whenever any function is held, firstly they perform a site-cleansing act known as "Sudhhi Punyaahavachanam". While reciting the selective versus, they hold the Dharbham bunch in their hand and placing the tip point of it over the vessel containing water. Thus the recited vibration values are absorbed by water in the vessel through the Dharbham.

They found that the Holy Grass known as Dharbham has the highest value in conducting the phonetic vibrations through its tip. Later, they sprinkle the Holy water at every nook and corner of the place, where the function is held. A Dharbham without the tip is considered of no value, as the conductor-type value is lost in it

Cocunut Breaking : Significance

Why Hindus break Coconut in Temple?

Everyone know that its ritual to break coconut but not many of us know why? Here is the reason behind it.
Hindus believe that the coconut is the purest form of offering that one can render unto God. The fruit is unique in many respects. The sweet, nectar-like water that it holds is pure and untouched by the human hand.It is drawn by the tree from its very base to its highest level.

The coarsely-knit outer fibres of the coconut represent the jealousy, greed, lust, selfishness and other vices of man, which must be broken up and removed if one is to penetrate and reach the white inner purity and thereafter taste the sweet untouched nectar of spiritual purity and bliss.
No other fruit has the three distinct, eyes of the coconut.

These symbolise the Trinity of Evolution - Creation, Preservation and Dissolution. The eyes also represent the three eyes of man - the two physical eyes plus the third or 'inner eye' which is the mind's eye or conscience.Only this 'inner eye' can penetrate the false, outer facade and reach the ultimate truth. It alone distinguishes right from wrong.

The composition of the coconut is characteristic of the three elements of man.
  1.  The hard, outer shell, with its course fibres, represent the physical composition.
  2.  The inner white fruit represents man's psychological element, and
  3.  The untouched water signifies his spiritual composition.

Having been offered to God, by way of prayer, the coconut is then eaten by the people as blessed food or prasadh in the belief that it has now received divine vibrations from God and will therefore give them good health and prosperity.

Laxmi -Vishnu Image Significance

Who are the Ashtalakshmi's?

Eight forces are recognized in the Hindu shastras, each one of which is called a lakshmi and all of them together are called `Astalakshmi`.

These eight forces or energies are-
Sri (Wealth),
Bhu (Earth),
Sarasvati (learning),
Priti (love),
 Kirti (Fame),
Santi (Peace),
Tushti(Pleasure) and
Pushti(Strength).
Vishnu is called Ashta Lakshmi Padhi which means he is the asylum for eight Lakshmis.

In reality Vishnu represents the preservative aspect of the universe, from whom the eight forces are radiated.Since Abstract force is beyond the comprehension of the common people these forces are personified and worshipped as Lakshmis. Worship of Lakshmi is said to bring health, wealth and prosperity.

Symbolism of Lord Vishnu

The 5 headed snake represents the five panchabhutas of nature namely air, water, fire, land and sky . Why the lord selected a snake to rest on?
The answer is that a snake has coiled structure so as the galaxies.
The name of the snake is Anantha which means infinity(brahmaloka).
In a nut shell it symbolizes that the Lord rests in between thousands of galaxies thus involved in the creation using the Panchabhuta.

The conch in Vishnu's hand stands for purity of speech,
The discus or the wheel symbolizes the knowledge of the self (I am the soul, point of light) and of the world-wheel (cycle of 5000 years).
The lotus represents purity of actions or uprightness of practical life and the spirit of detachment.
The mace denotes victory over the five vices: sex-lust, anger, greed, attachment and arrogance.
Two of the arms of Vishnu represent Shri Narayana and the rest two represent Shri Lakshmi.
The crown of light is symbolic of piety and peace and the crown of gold, bedecked with jewels, is an emblem of sovereignty or prosperity.
God Shiva exhorts mankind to adopt Vishnu as their ideal and if they do so, the    y would attain double-crowned sovereignty in Heaven

Chess SetUp = Mahabharatha Battle Formation

An Akshauhini was an ancient battle formation that consisted of 21,870 chariots (Sanskrit ratha); 21,870 elephants; 65,610 cavalry and 109,350 infantry,[1] as per the Mahabharata (Adi Parva 2.15-23). The ratio is 1 chariot : 1 elephant : 3 cavalry : 5 infantry soldiers. In each of these large number groups (65,610, etc.), the digits add up to 18.

It is said that the size of Pandavas‘ army in the Kurukshetra war was 7 akshauhinis, and those of Kauravas 11 akshauhinis. An ‘Akshauhini‘ is a combination of certain count of of elephants, chariots, horses and foot-soldiers.

The count is arrived as follows:
One elephant (Gaj), one chariot (Rath), three horses (Ashwa) and five foot soldiers (Padhat) form a Patti;
Three Pattis form a Sena-Mukha; three Sena-Mukhas make a Gulma; three Gulmas a Gana;
three Ganas a Vahini;three Vahinis a Pruthana;three Pruthanas a Chamu;three Chamus a Anikini;
ten Anikinis form a Akshauhini. Thus an Akshauhini, by calculation, contains 21,870 elephants, 21,870 chariots, 65,610 Horses, and 109,350 foot soldiers.

Kuru Army: of 11 Akshauhinis is formed by the kingdom of Hastinapura in alliance with races like the Samshaptakas, Trigartas, the Narayana army, the Sindhu army and Shalya of Madra.

Atimaharathi: A chariot warrior capable of fighting 12 Maharathi warriors simultaneously. Vali, Kartavirya Arjuna, Ravana, Parashurama, Jambavan, Bhisma, Karna, Arjuna, Dronacharya and Indrajit are Atimaharathis.
Maharathi: A chariot warrior capable of fighting 60,000 warriors simultaneously; circumspect in his mastery of all forms of weapons and combat skills. Yudhistra, Bhim, Nakul, Sahadev, Abhimanyu, Satyaki, Dhristadyumna, Shalya, Duryodhana, Kripacharya, Ashwathama,Kamsa,Jarasandha and Banasur were Maharathis.
Atirathi: A chariot warrior capable of contending with 10,000 warriors simultaneously. Yuyutsu, Drupada, Virata, Uttar, Shikandhi, Dushashana, Vikarna, Jayadratha and Shakuni were Atirathis.

Where is GOD

Refering the image and the idea of Vishnu resting on the 1000 headed serpent Vaasuki ,i have presented my view on "where to search for GOD" :

Samudra is nothing but our body which is constituted by 80% of water
Shesha is nothing but Sahasrara Chakra residing in the brain   and
Vishnu Paramatma is nothing but the Kundalini Energy thats sleeping inside the Sahasrara Chakra .

It means the supreme divine power can be seen and achieved once we awaken our Kundalini shakthi.God resides in every body and can be seen only if we awaken him which in turn means awakening our inner soul.

Nature has gifted us with supreme power but is hidden deep inside the unknown dimension of our body .Only with proper guidance ,effort ,thought and patience we can achieve it .

So search for God with in us !!

Significance of Piercing and Chuda Karma

Ear:
According to Susruta, the ancient book of health and longevity, the ear piercing protects the child from several diseases and it prevents hydrocele and harnia.

Nose:
It also has a saying that having your nose pierced on the left side eases childbirth .It is believed that the piercing of the nose near a particular node on the nostril lessens the pain during monthly menstrual cycle. Some also believe that it protects women from nasal infection.

Wearing ಕಾಲುಂಗುರ :
Even in women, there is a Silver ring to ware in the feet second finger on marriage. It is believed that the nerves relating to womb is ending there and a ring in that finger will give acupressure while walking and that may enhance the functioning of uterus.

Significance of Visiting Temples

contributed by Smt. Gayathri Sivaramakrishnan, Bangalore

Scientific Reason - There are thousands of temples all over India in different size, shape and locations but not all of them are considered to be built the Vedic way. Generally, a temple should be located at a place where earth's magnetic wave path passes through densely. It can be in the outskirts of a town / village or city, or in middle of the dwelling place, or on a hilltop. The essence of visiting SUCH a temple is discussed here.

Now, these temples are located strategically at a place where the positive energy is abundantly available from the magnetic and electric wave distributions of north/south pole thrust. The main idol is placed in the core center of the temple, known as Garbhagriha or *Moolasthanam*. In fact, the temple structure is built after the idol has been placed. This *Moolasthanam* is where earth’s magnetic waves are found to be maximum. We know that there are some copper plates, inscribed with Vedic scripts, installed beneath the Main Idol. What are they really? No, they are not God’s / priests’ flash cards when they forget the *shlokas*. The copper plate absorbs earth’s magnetic waves and radiates it to the surroundings. Thus a person regularly visiting a temple and walking clockwise around the Main Idol receives the beamed magnetic waves and his body absorbs it. This is a very slow process and a regular visit will let him absorb more of this positive energy. Scientifically, it is the positive energy that we all require to have a healthy life.

Further, the Sanctum is closed on three sides. This increases the effect of all energies. The lamp that is lit radiates heat energy and also provides light inside the sanctum to the priests or *poojaris* performing the pooja. The ringing of the bells and the chanting of prayers takes a worshipper into trance, thus not letting his mind waver. When done in groups, this helps people forget personal problems for a while and relieve their stress. The fragrance from the flowers, the burning of camphor give out the chemical energy further aiding in a different good aura. The effect of all these energies is supplemented by the positive energy from the idol, the copper plates and utensils in the Moolasthanam / Garbagraham. *Theertham*, the “ holy ” water used during the pooja to wash the idol is not plain water cleaning the dust off an idol. It is a concoction of Cardamom,*Karpura* (Benzoin), saffron, *Tulsi* (Holy Basil ), Clove, etc...Washing the idol is to charge the water with the magnetic radiations thus increasing its medicinal values. Three spoons of this holy water is distributed to devotees. Again, this water is mainly a source of magneto-therapy. Besides, the clove essence protects one from tooth decay, the saffron & *Tulsi* leafs protects one from common cold and cough, cardamom and *Pachha Karpuram* (benzoin), act as mouth fresheners. It is proved that *Theertham* is a very good blood purifier, as it is highly energized. Hence it is given as *prasadam* to the devotees. This way, one can claim to remain healthy by regularly visiting the Temples. This is why our elders used to suggest us to offer prayers at the temple so that you will be cured of many ailments. They were not always superstitious.

When people go to a temple for the *Deepaaraadhana*, and when the doors open up, the positive energy gushes out onto the persons who are there. The water that is sprinkled onto the assemblages passes on the energy to all. This also explains why men are not allowed to wear shirts at a few temples and women are requested to wear more ornaments during temple visits. It is through these jewels (metal) that positive energy is absorbed by the women. Also, it is a practice to leave newly purchased jewels at an idol’s feet and then wear them with the idol’s blessings. This act is now justified after reading this article. This act of “seeking divine blessings” before using any new article, like books or pens or automobiles may have stemmed from this through mere observation.

Energy lost in a day’s work is regained through a temple visit and one is refreshed slightly. The positive energy that is spread out in the entire temple and especially around where the main idol is placed, are simply absorbed by one's body and mind. Our practices are NOT some hard and fast rules framed by 1 man and his followers or God’s words in somebody’s dreams. All the rituals, all the practices are, in reality, well researched, studied and scientifically backed thesis which form the ways of nature to lead a good healthy life.

The scientific and research part of the practices are well camouflaged as “elder’s instructions” or “granny’s teaching’s” which should be obeyed as a mark of respect so as to once again, avoid stress to the mediocre brains.

/// So Visiting Temples is Good practice  but the temple to be visited should be constructed in Vedic style and People arround there should be educated to dress & behave accordingly .One should feel the Peace of inner mind and soul after a temple visit .

Significance of chanting Mantras

Linguistically, the word mantra in Sanskrit implies a specific structure of sonic patterns - coded in syllables and vowels, that works as an spiritual tool to liberate the mind from ignorance, illusion and evil instincts. The specific configurations of syllables and the corresponding combinations of phonemes in the mantras make the latter powerful 'carriers' of the cosmic energy of sound.

* : Book referred below is "Science of Mantra"

Although the vedic mantras could be well expressed vocally as prose or verse, the method of singing them in specific rythms as hymns was given principal importance by the Rishis. Hence the unique spectrum of vedic swaras and the gamut of chanting patterns for mantras were evolved and encoded in the Sama Veda. The Sama Veda contains divine knowledge of the miraculous spiritual flow of music that can effectuate a vivid connection of the individual 'self' with thy-self.
The sadhanas of mantra yoga together with Nada yoga are integral parts of the spiritual experiments on awakening of the Kundalini and realization of the Brahm through Oamkar.

The paramount role of vak (absolutely refined voice) in mantra yoga is emphasized with necessary guidance. It describes the four successively subtler levels of human voice (vani) and presents the methods, for the control and refinement of the vani and mental faculties, which can be practiced by everybody in day-to-day life. These sadhanas gradually lead to the spiritual elevation of the vani up to the supreme level - the vak. It further illustrates - how the hidden spiritual powers of a mantra are aroused by japa through such a spiriutally empowered voice. And how the materialization of the blessings and curses also becomes possible because of the power of vak.

Authentic examples and scientific evidences of the modern times are presented in THE* book with relevant excerpts from the scriptures to support and explain the enormous potentials of refined vani.

Omnipotent Role of Sound in the Universe

The vaidika scriptures on the origin of the universe mention that the absolute existence of the Brahm is expressed and realized in the sublime vibrations of Shabda and Nada. The anahat swar (the evolutionary impulse of cosmic sound) induced by these vibrations is said to be the generator of perpetual energy in the universe. Shabda - the omnipresent eternal origin of sound and Nada - the eternal element of the self-existent cosmic impulse of music, immanent in the subliminal as well as the gross realms of existence and their ever-evolving expressions in infinity are referred in the shastrik literature as Shabda Brahm and Nada Brahm.

Shabdaitavada - the vaidika knowledge of absolute sound, describes the sublime power of the omnipresent sound (Shabda) as an eternal, limitless whole and the sole creator of the universe. Sound is regarded here as the basic source of energy and motion existing in the universe. The existence of the material world is said to have originated from the cosmic impulse, the infinite bang of Shabda. [The big-bang theory of the modern science agrees with this conclusion of the -Rishis -scientists of yore]. The non-existence or absolute end of the world at the ultimate time - the other 'end' of the universal cycle - is also described to be a consequence of similar supersonic explosion. On the subliminal front, the existence of enormous activities of mind is said to have been realized through the eternal medium of sound.

In our day-to-day life, we generally come across with two types of sound - vyakta (audible) and avyakta (non-audible). These are defined as jalp and antarjalp in the Jain scriptures. The spoken words fall under the first category and those expressed silently (e.g. while thinking....) or through the language of mind are examples of the latter. Acoustic theories of modern physics have characterized these categories in terms of frequencies of the involved 'hard sound'. The manifestation of the vyakta and avyakta are relative in the physical world. The ultra and supersonic forms are avyakta to our ears, which can normally sense a sound only in the frequency-range of 20 to 20000 vibrations per sec. Similarly, the loud noise of a busy road would be non-audible to a person who is sitting in a closed house away from the road.... These examples clearly illustrate that the avyakta sound also exists in the same 'reality' as the vyakta one.

Our cosmos consists of the sound waves in all frequency ranges -- beyond the grasp of our audio sensors and even beyond the limits of our imagination.. Each impulse of the infinite activities of Nature indwells in the cosmos in the form of subliminal vibrations (of Shabda) before its physical manifestation in space and time. Many animals in this world are well equipped to perceive such subtle sounds in some range. Several varieties of birds and animals are therefore able to sense the future events, especially, many of the natural calamities of tremor etc, that are impossible to be recognized by humans. Often this 'superhuman' potential of animals and birds beats the advanced sensors of sophisticated instruments.

The sonic vibrations of each spoken or mentally thought syllable exist in the universe forever. Some frontline researchers of the modern science of sound hope that further advancement of science and technology would one day enable recording the voices (of the sages of yore) in the omnipresent 'ocean' of ether.

The vaidika science of mantras - the Mantra Vijgyna, developed by the -Rishis had endowed them with an exceptional faculty of communication across the universe. This power was indeed supernormal as compared to the capabilities of the modern inventions like radio, television and radar...., etc. Mantra Vijgyna is the science of the subliminal as well as the cosmic powers of sound. The specific configuration of the syllables compiled in the mantras makes them important in terms of associated sonic effect. The enunciation of a vedic mantra in a specific composition of accent, pitch, intensity, amplitude and rhythm results in its expansion (at a pace faster than the laser beams) in the endless domain of physical energy waves and consciousness. Because of the unique property of sound to traverse (via the electro-magnetic waves) anywhere in the space, the collective chanting of vaidika mantras can induce cosmic impact.

Significant scientific research on the demonstration and the measurement of sonic energy has been carried out in the modern age of advanced technology. This includes pioneering research in the area of ultrasonic in the USA and Germany. The applications of ultrasonic and infrasonic technology range from strategic weapons to biomedical instruments, from brainwashing to sound therapy and from telecommunications to remote control of the spacecrafts..

Having realized that the energy generated by the decomposition - through japa of a mantra - of the cosmic sound (shabda) would be of exponential magnitude as compared to that of the atomic energy, some pioneering scientists have also begun an in-depth study of the mantra vigyan. However, the researchers of this field must note that, it is the sublime effect of the mantras on the consciousness, which is more important than the gross (physical) sonic effects. Studies in this direction should therefore pay greater attention on the possibilities of spiritual enlightenment of all conscious beings with the help of mantra vigyna.

The treasure of knowledge in the Vedas is encoded in the form of mantras and chandas (hymns). Every mantra and chanda has its significant importance. The Gayatri Mantra is honored as preeminent in the science of spirituality and the mantra vigyna. This aadi (absolute origin) mantra is a compilation of nine special words (in ancient Sanskrit) formed by twenty four syllables. The japa of this mantra creates rhythmic pressure on the nerves and also titillates the extrasensory energy center (the six chakras) and subtle nerve-bundles (upatyikas) that generate soothing effects in the sadhaka's body and mind and also affect his deep inner self. This absolute mantra is said to have been realized through the cosmic vibrations of the eternal, sublime force of the omnipresent supreme consciousness (Brahma). This mahamantra is referred as the divine mother of all the Vedas and hence of all branches of knowledge. It is also recognized as the smallest of all religious scriptures and volumes of ultimate knowledge.... Because of its unique potential of inspiring the individual consciousness to link with the supreme consciousness, the Gayatri Mahamantra is indeed the most powerful and astonishing creation of shabda.

The symbolic depiction in the shastrik literature about.... "the seven horses of lord Sun gaining energy from the vibrations in mahadakaï (the cosmic dimensions)...." -- implies the generation of seven natural notes of music by the 'explosion' (from quintessential to perceivable state of existence) of the anahat nada. This cosmic expression of Shabda Brahm-Nada Brahm is described as the origin of the evolutionary impulse that resulted in the gross (perceivable) and subliminal existence of the ever-evolving Nature and the ever-expanding Universe.. This evolutionary afflatus is also described in the rhetoric presentation of the scriptures as - the cosmic force generated by the commingling of the Prakriti and Purusha .

The sublime vibration of the eternal sound of the self-existent absolute syllable "-" (Oam) indwells everywhere in the cosmic expansion. The self-generation of its rhythmic impulse (Omkar) - the 'big bang', had generated the infinite spectrum of the sublime and the gross reflections of Shabda and consequently effectuated the existence and manifestation of the electromagnetic waves and the basic physical energies of sound, heat and light.

The spiritual sadhanas of the Nada-Yoga lead to the realization of Omkar and hence to the unfolding of the secrets of Nature and deciphering of the hidden movements of time (past and future events)..

During the initial stages of Nada-Yoga one has to meditate upon the internal 'sounds' perceived through closed ears while sitting in an externally silent surrounding. Long term dedicated practices of this method results in the experience of a variety of 'otherwise' non-existent sounds ranging for instance, from that of a whistle or flute to a buzzer or a big-gong; tinkling of a beetle, peeling of bells, to the noise of the thunder bolts.... An unperturbed subliminal humming sound (of "Omkar") is experienced in the depths of the inner self in the completion phase of this yoga sadhana. The attainment of this ultimate state of deep trance in Nada-Yoga corresponds to absolute harmony and engrossment of the mind and the soul with the cosmic echo of Oam..

Realization and arousal of the sublime power of Shabda Brahm - Nada Brahm immanent in the human body, mind and the inner core of the soul are aimed in some higher levels of spiritual sadhanas.

All the branches of Mantra- Vigyan and related fields of yoga deal with the study and practice of rhythmic enunciation of mantras and deep meditation upon the transcendental powers of Shabda and Nada hidden in the former. These areas of research in the science of spirituality and yoga deal with the knowledge of Shabda Brahm - Nada Brahm. The inclusion of the perennial syllable (Oam) and its phoneme Omkar is compatible as well as essential with respect to the compilation of a mantra. Therefore, the science and philosophy of Omkar also fall within the vast domain of knowledge pertaining to Shabda Brahm - Nada Brahm.

The Indian scriptures on yoga and spirituality mention a great deal on Shabda Brahm - as the basis of all branches of Mantra Vigyan and the science of the eternal syllables ' - ' (Oam), and Nada Brahm - as the source of knowledge and realization of the seven eternal notes and the science of Omkar and music.

The elementary practices of Shabda Yoga deal with training, control and refinement of voice and speech. Consistent attempt for observance of purity, truth, precision and softness of spoken (vocally or in mental conversation via thoughts) words in day-to-day conduct are prerequisites before one could initiate Shabda Yoga. Gaining knowledge through sacred means like good literature, interaction and learning from enlightened personalities who possess truth and piety of character, and transmitting it to the deserving persons via equally noble mode is also necessary as a preliminary exercise of Shabda Yoga. A disciple (sadhaka) of this spiritual sadhana should realize the spoken and written words as live carriers of thoughts, sentiments and inspirations.

The Nada Yoga principle focuses upon the sadhanas of realizing the spiritual dignity and divine bliss of music through sincere training of the shastriya samgita (Indian classical music).

Higher level endeavors of Shabda Yoga and Nada Yoga result in the attainment of extrasensory potentials of communication in the subliminal horizons of supramental intellect and super consciousness. An accomplished yogi of the Shabda Yoga, can transmit his thoughts and inspirations to educe and control the minds of others at will. Similar state of success in Nada Yoga enables one to receive cosmic signals, divine voice and the messages of great souls and yogis from higher realms of spirituality.

Structure and Implications of Mantras

Swami Ramatirtha had once stated that - 'One may become a God but one can never see or show thee...'. The same is true of the subtle elements, they can be experienced or felt-in but can't be seen or shown in a laboratory. Flow of radio waves through the ether is well known though no instrument has been able to measure or demonstrate the 'appearance' or 'existence' of ether. We do feel the effects of chill, heat, happiness, sorrow... etc. in our day-to-day life but we can never see or show these effects in visible or otherwise perceivable forms.

Recitation of the mantras is only a means for arousing the omnipresent subtle power of shabda. When we awake somebody by pushing him by our hand, the hand simply plays the role of a tool, it is not a part of the process of awakening. Similarly, the specific configuration of syllables and the sound (including the sublime sound) produced by the japa of a mantra is only a means for activating specific field of the cosmic energy of shabda. Which mantra is suitable for awakening what kind of subliminal energy center - is described in the viniyoga (structural classification) of that mantra. All of the Vaidika and the T³ntrika Mantras have distinct viniyogas. The ancient scriptures of Âgama and Nigama describe the viniyoga part along with the details on the methods (and sadhanas) of the japa of the mantras. Before reciting a mantra one must read and understand its viniyoga.

The viniyoga of each mantra has five components - (i) Rishi, (ii) Chanda, (iii) Devata, (iv) Bija and (v) Tatva. The first component contains the names of the -Rishi(s) or the spiritual saints who had discovered, compiled and/or completely mastered that particular mantra and who therefore are regarded authorities on all the knowledge associated with the spiritual practice of that mantra. Such spiritual saints are the ideal gurus (guides) for the disciples who endeavor a sadhana of that mantra. Recalling this first component of the - viniyoga of a mantra also implies that revered devotion for those -Rishis and adept guidance of a noble guru is essential for practicing (the japa of) that mantra.

The chanda indicates the rhythmic composition for the enunciation or chanting of the mantra. As described earlier, each mantra can be practiced with different combinations of swaras (musical accents) and gati (amplitudes). Manasika, Vachika, Upanshu, Udatta-Anudatta, Swarita...., etc are some of the many modes of japa that are also described in the chanda for a mantra. The specific pattern of sonic waveforms generated by the mantra-japa depends upon the syllables of the mantra and the type of chanda used. The assignment of appropriate chanda for the spiritual sadhana processes of practicing a mantra is called - yati. The selection of a yati and hence of a chanda for a given mantra is decided with respect to the purpose of the sadhana, the configuration of the mantra-syllables and the mental and spiritual level of the sadhaka.

The third component, the devata represents the specific cosmic field (- of the subliminal energy of shabda) in the limitless expression of the supreme thy consciousness - that is aimed to be reached (realized) by the japa-sadhana of the associated mantra. We all know that out of the different programmes being broadcast via the radio waves, a radio set can catch (receive) only the ones whose frequencies it is tuned for. Similarly, from the different streams of the conscious power of shabda present in the universe, a mantra can be used to link the individual consciousness with the devata of that mantra.

As the practice of the mantra involves devoted meditation upon the devata along with the specified (according to the chanda) rhythmic enunciation or chanting, the -rashes had assigned visible forms to different devatas - representing different manifestations and subliminal expressions of the One, Eternal, Thy Consciousness.. Some of the -rishis also recommended worshiping the idols - of these forms of the devatas - in sacred atmosphere before commencing the japa of the mantras.

Worshiping an idol of God often facilitates proper meditation and creation of the internal emotions to strike the intrinsic core of absolute faith that is necessary for confluence of the individual consciousness with the cosmic flow of divinity. This type of rituals (called sakara upasana) do help conditioning the minds of the disciples who find it difficult to meditate upon the subliminal forms of shabda in the shunya - the absolute void, the ultimate, the 'non-existent' but eternal realms of thy conception.

The bija represents the origin of the mantra. It may be understood as a group of those syllables that contain, in compact coded form, the gist (tatva) of the mantra and thereby imply the latent existence of the specific power of shabda in that mantra. The japa of the bija generates the 'energy' essential for initiating the activation of the 'power' of the associated mantra.

The understanding and expertise of the science of mantras had illuminated the minds of the -rishis with supernormal sagacity. They could therefore grasp the knowledge of the limitless expansion of the universe and completely 'visualize' the structure and function of the tiniest part of the over 72000 nerves and glands mysteriously folded inside the human body and could also accomplish remarkable spiritual realizations. They also presented different streams of their intrinsic knowledge in the ancient Indian scriptures via prose consisting of the hymns of mantras.

The scientific significance of the sound produced by specific syllables has attracted many researchers to study the special features of the sonic waveforms generated by the recitation of the mantras. The ultrasonometer developed by Dr. Fristlov is used for triggering different chemical reactions via the effect of ultrasound. The stirrer used in this device can be made to stir (by the obvious effect of ultrasound!) so fast that in no time it can make the steady water - contained around it - churn violently like that during boiling at maximum pace. As far as the sonic effects are concerned, the subtle power of a mantra, if focused, can be more 'explosive' than the nuclear power.

The yogis often use the vital power of the air-element (vayu-tatva) and gain supernatural physical powers. A mantrika works at the highest level (akasha ) - in the hierarchy of the five basic elements and he can therefore be more powerful than other yogis.

Apart from the physical power of shabda, the mantras are also endowed with the 'magnetic' power of the conscious energy of Ïabda. The emotional linkage - through absolute intrinsic faith (shraddha) - with the devata of the mantra attracts the subliminal energy of shabda. The devotion and prayers of the devata of the mantra are performed to initiate this linkage. The rhythmic enunciation or chanting of mantras gives rise to two types of subtle fields of influence - one, the 'sphere' of sonic effects, and the other, of emotional (conscious) effects. The expansion and the power of attraction of these fields intensify with continuous (cyclic) japa of the mantras in specific rhythm in a consistent manner. So powerful their force of attraction could be that, any kind of material or conscious form entering into their peripheries could be transformed according to the influence of the mantra. The use of mantras for enlightening the mental and sentimental domains of all the human beings may therefore be regarded as a scientific possibility, a spiritual endeavor, rather than a myth or a daydreaming.

Scientific Roots of the Divine Impact of Mantra Sadhana

That sound can be recorded (e.g., by tape-recorders), amplified (e.g., by loudspeakers), propagated (e.g., by radio and TV signals), recognized (e.g., by the radar), measured and analyzed (e.g., by spectrographs or voice-printers) - in physical terms, proves its existence in matter.... A large number of examples of the destructive and creative effects of sound on matter can also be found in day-to-day life (c.f. previous sections).

Mantra Vidya is based on making perfect use of the gross viz., the sound of the vani of the sadhaka as well as the sublime viz., the consciousness -- the voice of the inner self, expressed in thoughts, emotions and intrinsic strength of the sadhaka, powers of shabda. The study of the higher level impact of mantras vis-à-vis that of the physical sound - in the gross domains of Nature, seems feasible in the modern times of scientific advancement.

The mechanical devices of radar send sound signals - via radio waves - far away in the space and receive the echoed sound back in few micro (10-6) seconds. The radio waves travel at a speed of about 295000 kilometers per second. Whenever their collision takes place with any object on their way, these waves are reflected back (to the radar that is set 'tuned' to receive them) at equally fast speed. The vibrations of these reflected signals contain the 'information' about the position, size and some other properties of the object. (This is how sound waves help in the recognition - through the radar, of an enemy's airplane during the war times....).

The human body could also be regarded as a 'radar' with respect to the gross sonic effects of the mantras. The extrasensory inner components (like the sat chakras or the granthis.... etc) of this biological radar send supernormal radio signals in the 'etheric whole' via the vibrations of mantras being enunciated in specific rhythms.... This wonderful radar receives back the quintessential signals of shabda as an 'echo' from the cosmic nucleus of the mantra.

The latent power of shabda - linked with the spiritual enlightenment and hence with the awakened power of the eternal consciousness of the soul of the sadhaka effectuates the impact of mantras on the 'radar' of the sadhaka's physical, subtle and astral bodies. And thus empowers the sadhaka with the supernatural potentials and afflatus upon successful completion of a mantra-sadhana.............
